Echoes of Serenity was inspired by two places I still think about often — the mountains in Banff and the quiet water lily ponds in Jeju Island. Even though they are completely different landscapes, they both gave me the same feeling of calm and stillness. I wanted this painting to feel almost like a memory, blending together moments and impressions from both places rather than painting them exactly as they are.

The mountains bring a sense of strength and quiet, while the pond and small details throughout the landscape soften the piece and make it feel more peaceful and lived in. I was especially drawn to the contrast between the large open sky and the delicate flowers floating on the water.

This painting is really about the feeling certain places leave behind — the kind you carry with you long after you’ve gone home.
